In the fall of 2008, the Santa Fe Workshops presents its eighth annual series of one-week photography workshops in the historic Mexican town of San Miguel de Allende. Veteran Santa Fe Workshops instructors lead 10 workshops in personal vision, figure study, documentary story telling, travel photography, and portraiture, along with workshops exploring Mexican culture and heritage.

San Miguel is one of Mexico’s most charming colonial towns, with narrow, serpentine, cobblestone streets that wind through sixteenth- and seventeenth-century stone buildings. Rich in culture, heritage, holidays, and fiestas, San Miguel is a National Historic Landmark, and as such, no new buildings can be constructed in the downtown area. It has long been a center for the arts and home to an international community of artists, writers, and sculptors. San Miguel has the feel of a small European city. Its people are friendly and warm, and it is a safe town where strolling its beautiful streets at night is a local tradition.

The fall season in San Miguel offers the perfect climate for photographing. The rainy season has ended, the skies are royal blue, daytime temperatures average 60° to 70°, and the evenings are crisp. The town sits at an altitude of 6,400 feet which keeps the humidity low and the sunset views unobstructed.
