This five-day introduction to the concepts, language, and tools of Photoshop is one of our most popular workshops. Participants master the basics of navigation, selection tools, copy and paste functions, layers and photo compositing, image adjustment tools, and filters for interesting visual effects. Through discussion, demonstration and hands-on application, we explore image adjustment and retouching techniques. We also investigate resolution as it relates to images originating from scanners and digital cameras.
This solid introduction gives beginners and self-taught users a complete understanding of the basics of Photoshop, leading them to creative experimentation and project work. Evening lab hours ensure adequate time to practice new skills and complete individual and group projects. Over the course of the week, participants learn how to:

Cotton Miller received a BFA in digital and photographic imaging from Texas State University, winning awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association for sports photography. He joined the Workshops in 2008 as an assistant in the digital lab. His personal work combines traditional, digital, alternative processes, and mixed media. Along with his infectious enthusiasm, Cotton shares a fascination with the future of integrating digital and traditional photographic methods. This is his second year teaching at the Workshops.
