This hands-on intensive is for photographers, artists, printmakers, curators, and gallery owners or managers interested in making fine-art reproductions for themselves or providing this service for others. Covering both the technical and the business aspects of fine-art reproduction, David guides participants through all the essential steps in the digital reproduction of works of art, from handling and capturing artwork to managing the artist’s expectations and profitability.
We learn how to analyze artwork, simplify lighting setup, position camera equipment, meter lighting, and improve efficiency and accuracy. Sessions in the digital lab focus on the HP Designjet Z3200 printer and the HP Artist software system (HPA). We practice streamlining workflow with the StudioPrint/HPA software to automate color management, process images, create proofs, and make final prints. Classroom discussions address the aesthetic and economic aspects of making digital fine-art reproductions. Additional topics include setting up a price structure, managing sales, budgeting, and projecting cash flow and profitability.
