For more than a hundred years, the landscapes and cultures of New Mexico have inspired photographers and painters such as Ansel Adams, Eliot Porter, Laura Gilpin, Paul Strand, Georgia O’Keeffe, Marsden Hartley, and Peter Hurd. This field-oriented workshop is about creating photographs that challenge the viewer’s imagination and convey the beauty, drama, and feeling of the Land of Enchantment.
Tony guides participants through some of his favorite photographic treasures, from the incredible skies and red rock formations of O’Keeffe’s Ghost Ranch to the vast ranchlands, wildlife, and historic structures of Mora County. Tony shares an in-depth knowledge of the land and its diverse peoples acquired during his 17 years as a professional photographer in New Mexico, and previously as the National Park Service’s chief ranger for the Southwest United States.
This is a week to explore your creativity, expand your visual skills, and to enhance your understanding of the photographic process from capture to output. Classroom sessions include discussions of composition, light, and color, and reviews of participants’ images. The use of Adobe Lightroom for digital workflow aids in achieving your personal style. Early morning departures and full days photographing the scenic beauty of northern New Mexico is an invigorating experience, which will be reflected in your work.
