The beauty of available light is that it is everywhere. Any time of day, any situation, can be a great opportunity to make an interpretive portrait. This workshop is designed to develop your ability to see the quality of light and apply it to real people. We don’t scout locations, we scout light, and then make the location work. The emphasis is on utilizing all of our tools—light, tonality, composition, and color—to state our ideas visually. Through demonstrations, field trips, and personal projects, we explore the realm of existing light: hard, soft, bounced, reflected, and diffused. We learn how to work with a variety of personalities, incorporate props, and how to draw out appropriate expressions. Assignments on campus and around Santa Fe encourage us to practice and to take advantage of the amazing light of New Mexico. Our goal is to capture the essence of each person through light and gesture. And, with Bobbi’s infectious enthusiasm, have fun in the process! INSTRUCTOR(S)
