"The workshop with Carlan was so enriching, not only in the sense of photography, but also as an example of values, respect, deepness and spirit of life." Monika Horstmann, former workshop participant This workshop is about slowing down, looking at the light, and thinking about what it is we want to say through our photographs. Whether our focus is on portraits, still life, or landscapes, we learn to adopt an open mind and a willingness to explore and experiment with light. We take the ordinary and allow ourselves to capture the extraordinary by reacting, interpreting, and expressing ourselves with our cameras. Daily assignments in and around Santa Fe encourage participants to venture beyond their normal comfort zone. Our workshop schedule includes time alone contemplating light and working with it, as well as time spent together discussing the work and what it reveals. Discussions, daily image reviews, and assignments fill our days, as we perceive, frame, and translate light into photographs that reveal so much more than the sum of their individual elements.
