This program is organized and operated by Cuba Cultural Travel, in consultation with, and endorsed by, the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops. Havana is one of the most fascinating and beguiling cities in the world, a vibrant and complex blend of history, people, and contemporary culture. Little changed through the last half century; Havana today is undergoing a dramatic shift that will catapult it into a city that not only leads its country but the entire Caribbean to a new era of global influence. During this unique people-to-people educational exchange program, Arthur and the participants meet Cubans from all walks of life as they move through their daily routines and at their special family events. Arthur and two English-speaking Cubans are guides and translators for small groups as they go to a variety of Havana’s most intriguing locations including a trip to Callejon de Hamel in the Cayo Hueso neighborhood of Central Havana to engage with a local expert to discuss the Afro-Cuban religion known as Santeria. In addition, there are visits to several of Havana’s dance and music centers to interact with artists and discuss Cuba’s passion for the arts. With your camera as your entrée into people’s lives, this exhilarating week with Arthur expands your knowledge of the inhabitants of the Cuban capitol city and opens the door to their quickly changing world.
