All photographers can benefit from the ability to write about themselves and their work. This workshop is for photographers who want to express themselves through the written word, be it for use on web sites, in print publications, or to pitch their work for exhibition. It’s also the perfect workshop for those who simply want to explore ways to articulate their photographic aspirations and accomplishments.

During the course of the workshop, we look at books and websites, listen to guest speakers, and take field trips to the Photo-Eye bookstore and galleries in Santa Fe. Plan to bring approximately 50 photographs for discussion. For the purpose of developing concrete descriptions, we reduce the number to ten. These ten are reviewed and discussed individually and with the group. We “test drive” our themes and texts in the classroom as we react and respond to each other’s work. We articulate what sets us apart as photographers, and we explore how to put our newfound words to use. Together, we tailor our writing to serve our goals as photographers.

By the end of the workshop, you have a simple, to-the-point biography, along with concrete descriptions of your photographs. In addition to being practical, this workshop will be lighthearted and fun (not ponderous and intimidating!).
