Thousands of good portraits are made every year. But to create great portraits, portraits that stand above the rest, photographers must produce images that are original, energized, inspiring, and provocative. This workshop is about making great portraits for the continually changing world of magazine portraiture. During the week, Andrew demonstrates his signature lighting and camera techniques, talks about fostering rapport with subjects, and offers advice on the various situations that can arise when photographing celebrities as well as “real people.” Joined by a digital technician from Industrial Color, Andrew demonstrates the use of a G5 Apple laptop for photographing on location, two 20" Apple Cinema Displays, a Phase One P25 and P45 digital back, and Phase One C1 Pro Capture software. Image presentations and discussions cover the business aspects of editorial photography, including portfolios, self-promotion, marketing, reps, rates, and resale of images through syndication. Daily studio and location assignments incorporate significant production decisions such as location, light, and styling. Assignments focus on creating memorable photographs for magazine covers, editorial spreads, music packages, and portrait essays. The results of our daily assignments are reviewed collectively and critiqued the following morning. Style and substance are key in today’s editorial photography marketplace. Come let Andrew push you to the cutting edge of editorial portraiture. INSTRUCTOR(S)
