Located between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, and cooled by tropical breezes, Puerto Rico boasts a rich cultural mix of Indian, Spanish, African and Anglo cultures, which together have influenced the island’s music, dance, food, language and architecture. Our base of operations for our photographic adventure is the historic El Convento Hotel in Old San Juan. Our locations puts us within walking distance of UNESCO World Heritage sites, Spanish Colonial forts, colorful doors, fountains and parks, churches, folkloric dancers, cobbled streets, and much more. We spend the better part of a day in Ponce, Puerto Rico’s second largest city, where we photograph turn-of-the century architecture—including Las Delicias Plaza, Ponce Cathedral, and the historic red-and-black striped firehouse—and a live vejigante model (a colorful character with the mask and billowy costume typical of the region). On another day we visit the Caribbean National Forest, the only tropical rain forest managed by the United States Forest Service. Known locally known as El Yunque, the rainforest is home to waterfalls, dense forests, bamboo stands, and giant ferns. We leave the rainforest and head for the beach, to photograph the historic Fajardo Lighthouse. During the tour, we work to hone our travel photography skills and style. Our schedule includes field demonstrations and individual reviews of your work in progress.
Includes tuition, double occupancy hotel accommodations (single supplement available for $720 additional), some meals, entrance & model fees, and group transportation.
