Discover new ways of finding, seeing, and capturing beautiful photographic images by moving closer and revealing detail. In this in-depth workshop we use an intimate approach to photograph what’s before us, to create a unique, individual, and personal rendition of the subject. Participants learn the art of “close up”, or macro, photography by exploring artistic themes found in both the natural world and man-made objects. We look at architecture, travel, still life, and anatomy. Through a variety of techniques, we master ways to enhance and capture the details that craft intimate interpretations of form that result in creative images. We learn techniques including backgrounds and lens choice, practice good visual awareness, and most importantly, focus on how to frame a subject. We review the work of selected great masters from the past as well as contemporary photographers who have specialized in the close up. Our understanding of their approaches and a series of exercises and critiques focusing on composition, color versus black-and-white, and light and texture, assist us as we find ways to express our own personal vision. Working both spontaneously and meticulously, we look at abstraction and how to interpret a subject in a variety of ways. INSTRUCTOR(S)
