Within the Kathmandu Valley is a unique melding of two of the world’s most ancient, vibrant and visually fascinating living religions - Hinduism and Tibetan Buddhism. The valley boasts one of the densest concentrations of UNESCO World Heritage Sites on earth, and we will be privileged to visit at least seven of them. These sacred temples and palaces are not the abandoned relics of a long-extinct civilization. These sites have been in continual daily use for many centuries, and the human dramas that unfold here are truly a marvel to witness. We will also tour the “living museum” cities of Patan and Bhaktapur, visiting master craftsmen in their traditional metal casting, wood carving and painting studios. This workshop is open to all photographers interested in developing a more distinctive, personal style of imagery that transcends the boundaries of mainstream “Travel Photography”. We will discuss technical, aesthetic and cultural considerations that will enable you to create more intimate and authentic images – both here and in other “exotic” locations. Participants may choose film or digital capture, with digital preferred to allow for frequent feedback and critique. A portfolio is not required, however a working knowledge of your camera in manual mode is essential. Group size limited to 12.
Tuition and land cost only. For complete information, please contact www.HimalayanOdyssey.net, email: david@dsrobbins.com, or call (800)-970-5904. Please mention that you learned about this opportunity through the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops.
