Photographing classic locations—such as the iconic mountains surrounding Snowmass and the Aspen Valley—involves pointing your lens toward landscapes that many great photographers prior to you have captured before. It can be incredibly challenging to break the mold and come home with images that are not only a personal best, but are also considered the best in comparison to the work that precedes them.

Ansel Adams Award–winning photographer Ian Shive has, for the last decade, faced the challenges of creating unique pieces while visually capturing America’s National Parks, and he uses his expertise to help guide participants toward creating fresh and distinctive photography of their own.

Finding new ways to raise the bar by composing stunning work is a multi-step process that starts with planning and preparation for the photo session, moves on to execution in the field, and concludes with the processing of images back in the classroom.

Ian takes you through this process at time-honored sites such as Maroon Bells and along the Roaring Fork River, as well as other lesser known locations. In addition to addressing the technical aspects of creating an outstanding image, we also focus on the philosophical approaches that result in superior photographs. Together, we expand your vision while eliminating chance and guesswork from your process. Through careful planning and meticulous execution, you discover how to create your own great photographic opportunities.

Includes tuition, 6 nights lodging (double occupancy; single available for additional $450) in a condominium with full kitchen, and Welcome and Closing night dinners.
