Day of the Dead in Colonial Mexico
with Renie Haiduk
October 29 - November 3, 2014

This workshop has already begun or is a past workshop.

Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is simultaneously a very personal yet widely celebrated Mexican tradition. Families honor their departed loved ones during this three-day celebration that includes Halloween, Día los Niños, and All Souls' Day, as it is believed that this is when the departed souls are closest to the veil that divides the living and the dead.

Mexican culture embraces this period to invite departed loved ones to enjoy earthly pleasures such as food, drink, music, and family. Renie, with her close connections to local families, provides you with unique opportunities to experience the authentic traditions of Día de los Muertos from a far more intimate perspective than merely attending the celebrations found on San Miguel's main plaza, including preparation of altars in homes and cemeteries. A local guest speaker shares the meaning behind the use of each element used to commune with departed loved ones. In addition to photographing in San Miguel, we visit nearby small communities for intimate ceremonies. Participants are also given free time a few evenings to capture the public events and parades near El Jardín.

Authentic and memorable, Día de los Muertos in San Miguel de Allende is an experience you don’t want to miss and will always remember!

Note: This is not a technical class but a tripod is recommended for those familiar with their camera and planning on photographing in low-light situations.

Includes double accommodations for 6 nights (single supplement available for an additional $480), breakfast Thursday through Tuesday, lunch Thursday through Monday, dinner Wednesday & Monday, and applicable model/location/materials fees.   General Information for Workshops in San Miguel
