The Art of Travel Storytelling
with Kike Calvo
June 29 - July 4, 2014

This workshop has already begun or is a past workshop.

►►SORRY, THIS WORKSHOP WILL NOT BE RUNNING.

Mastering the ability to visually narrate a travel story in a coherent, specific, unique, and powerfully artistic manner requires not only photographic aptitude but also other life skills, such as dealing with people and gaining access to subjects. Kike acquired extensive experience in all these areas while on assignment in more than 85 countries for clients such as National Geographic, The New York Times, and UNICEF.

He shares his experience and more in this five-day workshop designed to recreate a real assignment. Together we work in teams to develop stories, documenting a unique sense of place and organizing materials in a way that an audience will find interesting, informative, and creative. Topics we cover include choosing the right gear for the assignment, and how to gain access to the right locations in the right light. Kike regularly presents examples of his own projects, which are examined in conjunction with daily photographic assignments, both individual and team-based. Regular feedback and critiques are also part of his methodology.

Those who know Kike understand why his favorite saying is, ¨Never stop dreaming.” Join him in celebrating the love of photography while learning how to share the essence of a travel location with passion, respect, and creativity. Above all, discover the wisdom of planning with the head yet photographing with the heart.
