Beneath the dry desert environs of southeastern New Mexico lies a realm of wonder and spectacular beauty that is unrivaled in this world. Carlsbad Caverns National Park astounds the imagination with its huge chambers, labyrinthine passages, and bizarre formations.
Capturing this beauty with a camera has been a daunting experience for many photographers, but Peter (who has spent 45 years photographing caves in New Mexico, including Carlsbad Caverns and Lechuguilla Cave) provides you with the tools and knowledge to bring to unearth your own great images from the underground.
We meet in Carlsbad and begin with morning discussions on the technical aspects of photographing underground, using in-cave lighting, natural light, and flashes of different types. We spend three days photographing in different areas within Carlsbad Caverns and other caves. Using Peter's guidance—and your own imagination—you create and capture an astonishing array of images unlike any you’ve ever taken before.
Our two final days are spent in Santa Fe, at The Workshops state-of-the-art digital lab, working to express the essence of the underground experience and printing images to take home. Participants come away with a new set of reference points on the creative process of digital photography, from capturing some of America’s most spectacular natural formations to producing high-quality prints.
