The Delta: A Photographic Journey through the Deep South
October 15 - October 24, 2013

This workshop has already begun or is a past workshop.

“I first visited the Delta in 2009, and, in a sense, I have never left. Or more precisely, the Delta has never left me. Such is the magical spell cast by the place and the people who live in that slender stretch of flat, fertile land in northwestern Mississippi. It is a place where lives are shaped by a close attachment to the land, by the unhurried rhythms of the season, and by the shared memories of a tortured past. There is something about the Delta people that goes to the very heart of what it means to be human. Perhaps nowhere else in America do such extremes in ways of life and emotional history exist so intimately.” - Magdalena Solé

From our base at the beautiful Seven Chimneys Farm in Stovall, Mississippi, your journey into the Delta begins with Magdalena reviewing of each photographer’s work. We then explore a series of topics including the process of photographing spontaneously and intuitively, how to photograph in cultures other than one’s own, and how to edit photographs so they reveal a story.

Each day is filled with photographing, a lecture or presentation, and editing and reviewing your work from the previous day. Magdalena guides participants in the development of a unique, personal way of seeing and the development of an intuitive way of editing your photographs. We also discuss how to take your work to the next level.

The workshop kicks off with a welcome dinner on October 15, and wraps the morning of Thursday, October 24.

Includes tuition only. For complete information, including information on lodging, visit www.photoxpeditions.com, email Photo Xpeditions at info@photoxpeditions.com, or call 888-741-3974. Please mention that you learned about this opportunity through Santa Fe Photographic Workshops.
