Travel photography can be tricky. To do it well requires connecting visually in a meaningful way with a new place. Light, composition, and subject matter shift rapidly and demand a sense of technical fluidity. Relationships and opinions have to be formed quickly and translated effectively into impressions that can be captured with a camera.

During our time together, we examine every crucial element of travel photography, and each day we push ourselves to engage with challenges both technical and visual. To begin, Jennifer leads a brainstorming session to generate ideas related to photographing in this friendly Latin culture, starting with an image presentation, conversation about Mexico, and the week’s Day of the Dead festivities.

Through daily excursions in vibrant San Miguel de Allende and neighboring towns, we develop our skills in portraiture, landscape, and street photography, always with an eye towards connecting with the authentic. We engage fully with our surroundings as we explore strategies for approaching people and creating unique portraits.

We practice simple in-camera techniques for the variety of conditions typically confronted during travel. Jennifer provides solutions to frequently encountered lighting situations and we investigate the best digital workflow for travel.
