Join Jock Sturges in San Miguel de Allende for an exploration of the technical and psychological challenges of working with models in the process of creating exceptional portraits and figure studies. Paramount to the goals of the week is a close examination of the relationships between photographers and their models, with an emphasis on learning to accept (rather than “direct”) poses.

On the technical side, Jock introduces a rapid, intuitive use of the camera that liberates photographers from deliberate methodology and pushes them toward creative spontaneity. Mornings are spent on critiques and discussions of images created the day before, as well as lectures and demonstrations. Afternoons are devoted to group and solo assignments, working with male and female models on location in some of San Miguel’s enchanting private gardens, homes, and selected public spaces that embody the unique ambience of this colonial city.
