Creating a photographic portrait takes courage and confidence. As a photographer, you need courage to approach your subject and the confidence to put you both at ease for the creative process ahead. Over the course of two fun, intensive days, portrait photographer David Robin introduces participants to the skills needed to approach available light portrait situations and create compelling images. Many elements must align for a portrait to be insightful and thoughtful. To speak with our photographs, we must master the technical aspects of our craft and utilize light to communicate our vision. And as portrait photographers we must also be able to communicate with our subjects to ensure the resulting portrait reveals what we intend. We first explore the masters in the genre; these photographers become touchstones for us as we develop our own approaches to making portraits. Then David leads lectures, class discussions, demonstrations, hands-on assignments on location, and critiques. We explore how to approach our subjects confidently, make them feel comfortable, choose the right environment and lighting situation, pose them, and, finally, collaborate with them in a mutually rewarding way. You come away from our two days together with a firm understanding of how to approach available light portrait situations with courage and confidence, and create compelling portraiture you are proud to call your own. Tuition for this Intensive includes two lunches. INSTRUCTOR(S)
