Rodeo de Galisteo: Capture to Print
with Norman Mauskopf
July 20 - July 23, 2013

This workshop has already begun or is a past workshop.

Rodeo is more than a contest between man and animal. Rodeo is the embodiment of the America of small Western towns and generations of ranching traditions. It is the America of pick-up trucks, parades, and country music; of barbecue and beer, big hats, bandanas, and fancy boots; the appreciation of witty poetic language and the habit of enduring pain with a joke. These are the elements we encounter at the 42nd Annual Rodeo de Galisteo, in the majestic big sky setting of the Galisteo Basin, 30 miles south of Santa Fe. For four days, you hone your skills taking portraits, candids, and action photographs under the guidance of Norman Mauskopf, whose images in his award-winning book Rodeo were described as "not merely photographs, but observations deeply seen and deeply felt."

Our first two days are spent photographing before, during, and after each rodeo performance and during the rodeo parade.

Our second two days are spent in The Workshops state-of-the-art digital lab, editing, critiquing, and printing your images. You come away with a set of prints of your best rodeo images, as well as insight into what it takes to create a visual essay in the grand tradition of documentary photography and photojournalism. It all adds up to an invigorating and well-rounded photographic experience.

Tuition for this intensive includes lunches Monday and Tuesday.
