Would you like to develop or enhance your personal style, strengthen your original vision, and broaden the way you think about photography? This workshop helps advanced amateur and professional photographers find more passion in their work, by exploring the narrative, aesthetic, and emotional aspects of imagemaking, with an emphasis on simplicity of concept and the use of natural light. By studying the work of both historically significant and little-known photographers, we refine our views on producing work and balancing the various aspects of a busy life. Through practical demonstrations, field trips, and individual portfolio reviews, we learn what we mean when we talk about finding the “magic in the mundane,” and the “poetry in the commonplace.” Most importantly, we learn how to integrate these concepts in our finished work. In addition to darkroom techniques, digital fine art processes, and expressive printmaking, we discuss how to develop projects and exhibitions, including dealing with the ins and outs of the publishing world. Everyone is encouraged to bring their sense of humor along with a sense of purpose; wise-asses, hotdogs, and burnouts are, of course, always welcome! INSTRUCTOR(S)
