Stretching Your Frame of Mind

►►SORRY, THIS WORKSHOP WILL NOT BE RUNNING. Imagine yourself standing at some location with a stretched canvas on an easel by your side. In your hand is an artist's palette. Instead of the various blues, greens, reds, yellows, and brown pigments, however, it contains the elements of visual design and composition. As a photographer, you are most definitely a visual artist, with a camera on a tripod replacing the easel and canvas. Line, negative space, vanishing point, balance, pattern, texture, shape, form, tension, perspective, color and—most importantly—light rest on your palette, waiting to be combined. These components of design have been around since the Renaissance, and for four days Joe shows you how to incorporate them into your photographic thought process. We study examples of Joe’s work and notice how they bring together design elements. We also explore the difference between taking pictures and making images. Then you are given the opportunity to incorporate this knowledge into your own assignments, which we discuss as a group.
