In the ever-changing world of photography, we remain fascinated with ourselves and our fellow human beings. If you’ve always wanted to photograph people but have been hesitant to try—or simply wish to improve your skills—this workshop is for you. We focus on the two main categories of photographing people: portraits and candids. The Portrait: A photographic portrait can convey the truest aspect of the human condition. The best ones capture shared humanity while portraying individual uniqueness. Learn how to engage both strangers and friends, how to create a collaborative partnership with your subjects, and how to incorporate gesture and background—all in the service of creating an engaging, unified, and memorable portrait. The Candid: The candid photograph is the polar opposite of the portrait. Here you are an observer, remaining as inconspicuous as possible. Instead of slowly building a rapport with one individual, you must act with speed and precision to reveal the tapestry of a singular, distinctive moment. We explore the art of street photography, learning to react decisively to the unexpected as it occurs. In both areas we discover techniques for increasing concentration and awareness, working with intent and proficiency. You come away with new skills and confidence in photographing people, providing a springboard for further exploration. INSTRUCTOR(S)
