Removed of its color, the world is reduced into a dramatic place full of shape and form, texture and contrast. Choosing to photograph an image in black and white involves a process that is more involved than just discarding the color information. It requires a conscience effort—from capture through development—to emphasize the tones, patterns, highlights, and shadows of a subject. This two-day intensive begins with a discussion of which conditions and subjects are most appropriate for black-and-white photography. Exploring a variety of genres, from landscapes to portraiture, we photograph with an emphasis towards retraining our eyes to see in a colorless world. From there, Jennifer guides participants through a variety of simple techniques for processing images in Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop to best emphasize the mood and tones inherent in the image. Train your eye to recognize the shapes, texture, and contrasts that exist in a world without color—and watch new possibilities open up for you in digital black-and-white photography. Tuition for this Intensive includes two lunches. INSTRUCTOR(S)
