The town of Paucartambo. Sitting in a unique valley, about two hours from the point where the Andes meet the Amazon, this village of a few thousand people has whitewashed houses, red roofs and blue doors, windows and balconies. Every year, from July 15 to July 18, thousands of believers and visitors come to celebrate the Festival of the Mamacha del Carmen. At the entrance of the town’s church, they pay homage to the Virgen del Carmen in song, dance, rhythm and joy. Streets, windows, doorways and alleys are lined with the faithful, who pay homage to this singularly unifying and revered idol.

Throughout our tour of Peru’s small towns and festive streets, Daniel and Adam work with participants both as a group and individually to help each of you assess what makes your personal photographic style unique. Choosing a camera and lens, evaluating a scene, crossing the language barrier, using available light, and learning how to engage the subject are all part of the learning experience.

You return from your Peru experience with the spirit, knowledge and confidence to make photographs in any location. You can anticipate working with both paid models and locals in a variety of locations, from high-altitude weaving villages to the cobbled streets of Cusco.
