Ever wish you could swing back in time and experience the “real” Las Vegas, the Vegas of Sinatra, Elvis, mobsters, and showgirls? The crooners may be gone, but the spirit lives on, and downtown Las Vegas is a photographer’s paradise. Our first three days are spent in the famous Fremont Street area photographing the retro neon signs of the Neon Museum’s Neon Boneyard. At night, as the streets come to life with showgirls and characters galore, we capture the signs in all their glory. We explore old-school casinos, the famous Little White Wedding Chapel, mid-century architecture, and the Mob Museum. In keeping with the vintage theme, we dine out at some of the city’s classic lounges, diners, and restaurants, including the legendary Golden Steer, a favorite haunt of the Rat Pack and Hollywood celebrities. On Saturday we venture over to the Strip to experience the Vegas of today, capturing many of the endless sites and hotels along this celebrated route. Sunday morning offers time for personal projects, as well as individual reviews of your work with Julien. Through the use of daily field demonstrations, we hone both our travel photography skills and our personal styles. Join Julien on this unique photo journey that is a must for nostalgia buffs.
Includes tuition and entry fees to the Neon Boneyard and the Mob Museum. Transportation, meals, and lodging are extra. Hotels in the Freemont Street area are very reasonable, ranging from $35 - $89 per night for three-to-four-star hotels. To register, call The Workshops at (505) 983-1400, ext. 11.
