Reportage: Kolkata (Calcutta) is an intensive, full immersion nine-day workshop in Kolkata (Calcutta), India. This is an opportunity to work shoulder-to-shoulder with an NGO/aid organization involved with the social landscape of Kolkata, India’s second-largest city. Its teaming streets offer contrasts of stark poverty and over-the-top wealth against a historic urban metropolis, and it is an amazing and special place for any photographer interested in street photography. Once in Calcutta on Thursday evening your basic needs, including dinners and a clean and secure place to sleep, are handled. During our nine days together your biggest concern will be your work. The workshop follows this format: you photograph each day, returning to our hotel late afternoon to back up your files and do a soft edit. After dinner we meet as a group and Michael and Glen critique work from each photographer, providing editing skills and direct, supportive feedback. Our goal is to support each photographer in their efforts to build and expand on their vision. Past participants have gone on to expanded professional careers, and two graduates participated in the 2011 Eddie Adams Workshop.
Includes tuition and land cost only, airfare not included. A $500 deposit holds your spot. Organized by Visual Reportage Workshops; see www.visualreportage.com for full details. Please mention that you learned about this opportunity through Santa Fe Photographic Workshops.
