Travel photography involves capturing the essence of a place—the character and mood of its people, culture, food, and landscape. In this workshop we have the world-class travel destination of Santa Fe to willingly assist us with the pursuit of these travel photography principles.

For inspiration, we review several travel stories to give us an idea of what makes a good visual interpretation of a place. We then define what we need to photograph in Santa Fe, and head out to capture our images. Starting at sunrise on the Plaza, we photograph Santa Fe’s adobe architecture. When the harsh midday sun is overhead, we create images indoors. During this time, we go to a local restaurant and practice photographing food. We then return to campus and work on our images in The Workshops state-of-the-art digital lab.

We also explore Canyon Road and its art galleries to interpret Santa Fe’s reputation as an important art destination. We visit the new Railyard District and go to the Santa Fe Farmers Market, where the abundance of colors is extraordinary. Sunset finds us capturing the last golden rays of sun on the surrounding landscape, buildings, and people of stunning Santa Fe.
