Digital Printmaking Intensive
January 27-29
with Jerry Courvoisier
This intensive two-and-a-half-day, hands-on workshop compresses and streamlines
the digital printmaking process. Jerry guides participants as they discover
how to craft images to perfection with Adobe Photoshop and HP printers, developing
an in-depth understanding of managing color accurately and achieving smooth,
subtle transitions when creating fine-art-quality prints.
Using Photoshop CS3, we learn to build an image file that preserves excellent
detail by adjusting images with maximum control. The workshop covers all the
bases, including the best way to convert color to black-and-white, sharpening
methods that enhance detail, and simple layering and masking techniques—everything
necessary to successfully navigate the HP printer and software. We experiment
with different kinds of printing papers to understand how they affect image
presentation and quality. We also explore image size and its effects on tone,
sharpness, and the overall character and impact of a printed image.

Beginning Photography with Digital Cameras
February 17-23
with Sarah Meghan Lee
This start-from-scratch primer workshop takes you from the basics of exposure,
manipulation of depth of field and shutter speed to the ultimate goal of creating
compelling photographs with your digital camera. You gain a solid technical foundation that permits
you to take the photographs you’ve always wanted to take as well as push
your creative side. You learn to be comfortable with your camera by understanding
manual modes of exposure, depth of field and focus with subsequent discussions
covering composition, lenses, natural light, and difficult lighting situations.
Participants are on the move with Sarah, practicing new skills during daily
field trips in and around beautiful Santa Fe. Sarah encourages a lively, energetic
atmosphere that builds confidence in photographic abilities and personal vision.
By the end of the week, participants leave invigorated about photography and
with a collection of images that illustrates their growth technically and creatively.
