Rosanne Olson is excited to announce the release of her new book This
is Who I Am—our beauty in all shapes and sizes. Rosanne
has been working on this project that combines photographs and
essays for the past six years with the goal of helping women
(and men) find compassion for themselves and others. LensWork
Magazine is running a feature article about the book in their
March/April issue, as well as a video interview for the "extended"
version of the publication.
Rosanne is teaching a portrait lighting workshop in Santa Fe
June 29-July 5 called The
Poetry of Light.

photography books – and the people behind them. Take part
in this international juried book competition, traveling salon,
and symposium. Submit your book by July 14 for the chance to gain
worldwide recognition plus $25,000 to finish – or start – any
project you want. Learn

» The Santa Fe Photographic Workshops is
pleased to welcome Rick Allred to the full-time staff as Digital
Lab Manager. He served as studio manager and digital lab assistant
at SFPW before moving to Maui, Hawaii, to head the photography
department at the Hui No’Eau Visual Art
Center. Now back in Santa Fe, Rick has been teaching Photoshop
classes for SFPW and continues to make fine-art portraits that
capture the lighter side of human nature. Rick is also teaching
a workshop this summer called Basics
of Digital Photography. Welcome back to The Workshops family!
Jerry Courvoisier is now the Digital Programs Director and will
also continue to provide individualized instruction (see March
e-Newsletter for further details).

Special Workshops
Offered by SFPW Instructors
The Santa Fe Photographic Workshops supports the following workshops
being taught by veteran instructors Greg Gorman, Jay Maisel,
and Eddie Soloway:

© 2007 Joe Mozden |
Greg Gorman: After 30 years of taking
photographs with various medium format analog cameras, Greg Gorman
has now fully transitioned his photo studio into the world of
digital photography. Greg has now decided to share his knowledge
of digital photography in an intimate setting by conducting quarterly
workshops. Having
built a studio adjacent to his home in the Northern California
town of Mendocino, Greg has the perfect venue for teaching
these workshops. The picturesque coast, the redwood forests,
the vineyards, and the local sites offer an amazing backdrop
for photography students.
Greg’s workshop features a guest speaker for the week;
an evening “meet and greet” dinner at Greg’s
home, cooked by Greg himself; daily sessions with camera demos
including setup and download, color management, editing techniques,
Photoshop lessons, fine art printing techniques; and actual
printing of images for all students. The workshop provides
models and the students have the opportunity to shoot both
in studio and on location at one of the many locales nearby.
For complete details on these workshops visit www.gormanphotography.com/gorman.html.

Jay Maisel: Jay is offering
a unique opportunity to take a one week workshop with him
at his bank building in New York City. The workshop will
blend photography assignments with critique and discussion. The
workshop is sponsored by SanDisk and will take place Monday
April 14th through Friday April 18th, from 9am to 10pm
each day. All meals are included. Space is limited to (9)
participants and enrollment is based on a first come, first
serve basis.
For complete details, download the following PDF: The Jay
Maisel Workshop

© Eddie Soloway |
Eddie Soloway: Eddie’s “Natural
Eye Immersion in Tuscany," May 25 - June 1, has two
spaces available. The location is superb and the
emphasis is on making photographs. Drop Eddie a note
at eddie@eddiesoloway.com for
all the details. Costs: US$2,375.00
per person. Includes: Seven nights
double occupancy lodging, all breakfasts, three group dinners
with local wine, a fourth dinner at a Montalcino winery
preceded by a wine tasting and access to the vineyards,
and one lunch in the hillside village of Sorano. Take
advantage of good airfares and enjoy the included costs
of lodging and many meals while the euro remains strong.
Please mention that you learned about these opportunities
from the Santa Fe Workshops.

On-the-Road
Workshop: Peru

© John Weiss |
Peru - A Photographic and Cultural Exploration
August 30 - September 8, 2008
Led by John Weiss
Journey through Peru and Machu Picchu with John
Weiss. As we travel overland through the Sacred Valley
you will discover many sites often missed by the
casual tourist. We'll visit the local Quechua markets,
affording us a view of the myriad colors of bright
clothing and local produce. Perhaps the most spectacular
part of the tour, we will walk the ancient pathways
of Machu Picchu, where remarkable photography opportunities
await.
John specializes in both documentary and portraiture
photography; those who travel with him become immersed
in the local culture, and learn to feel comfortable
sharing themselves and their love of photography
with native families and newfound friends in Peru.
An important element of your photographic experience
is John's critique of your work and evening lectures.
For digital photographers, John plans to offer a
review of your ongoing work twice during our tour.
Bringing a laptop will greatly facilitate the process.
For people shooting film, please bring a portfolio
of up to 20 prints.
Group size is limited to 12. Land cost in Peru is
$3595. For complete information, please contact Strabo
International Tour Company at 607-756-8676, or call
John Weiss at (410) 392-2929. Please mention that
you learned about this opportunity from the Santa
Fe Workshops. |

Adobe Lightroom Intensive
May 30-June 1
with Jerry Courvoisier
Adobe Lightroom is an essential new image management application that makes
the digital photography workflow more efficient. It facilitates editing, processing,
and preparing output for slide shows, Web galleries, and finished prints.
Led by Jerry Courvoisier, who used Lightroom over a two-year period during
the pre-release development stage, this two-and-half-day, hands-on workshop
provides a wealth of information on how to organize, develop, and process images
with maximum efficiency so that you can spend less time processing images and
more time taking pictures. Participants work with a series of their own images,
Raw and/or JPEG files, as they become acquainted with and practice the fundamental
processes of the Lightroom workflow. They also learn when to turn to Photoshop
CS3 for adjustments that can't be made in Lightroom.
Visit
the Web site for complete details including equipment requirements, Jerry's
biography, and fees. Call the Workshops to register (505) 983-1400, ext 11. |
