Pedro Abascal is one of Cuba’s best-known contemporary photographers. He is a self-taught artist of the lens who has been working as a professional documentary photographer for almost two decades. His work has been published in several national and international anthologies of photography and visual arts, such as Song to Reality, Anthology of Latin American Photography 1860-1993, Project Memory, Viva La Vida and 100 Years of Cuban Photography. In 2003, Pedro published Personal Documents, a monograph about his work. His photographs are part of public and private collections in Cuba, France, Holland, Italy, and Mexico as well as in teaching institutions, galleries, and museums in the United States.
