Catherine Karnow was born and raised in Hong Kong, the daughter of an American journalist. She seems to have been destined to become a travel photojournalist. After a brief career as a filmmaker, she turned her attention to photography full-time in 1986. Since then she has covered Australian Aborigines, Bombay film stars, and Connecticut high society. She accompanied General Giap on his historic 1994 return to the northern Vietnam highlands, and she photographed Prince Charles for a National Geographic feature, “Not Your Typical Radical.” Catherine’s images have appeared in National Geographic, National Geographic Traveler, Smithsonian, and French and German GEO.
