Capture to Print
with Tim Grey
July 12 - 18

This workshop is for photographers wishing to achieve exceptional quality in final prints that meet, and even exceed, their original vision. We begin with processing raw captures for the highest degree of detail and quality, then learn and practice an image-optimization workflow that offers maximum flexibility and control without getting in the way of the creative process. Other topics include advanced tonal and color adjustments, targeted adjustments with selections and layer masks, and turning that digital image into a beautiful print.

Perfecting the Fine-Art Digital Print
with Craig Stevens
July 26 - August 1

Participants explore the subtleties that transform a print from a mere statement to a poetic expression of the photographer’s emotional intent. We practice techniques for modulating the range of light in terms of densities of light and dark, local and overall contrast, color, and tone. With Nik Software’s Silver Efex Pro we learn how to further enhance black-and-white prints. In daily printing sessions, we output images on a variety of papers to explore the different possibilities.
To register for any of the above workshops, please call (505) 983-1400, ext. 11.

This workshop is a great next step for those who have already learned the basics of digital photography. Participants learn advanced features including white balance, exposure compensation, custom settings, flash, histograms and camera data, color and contrast adjustments, raw format, and managing photographic files. We focus on what inspires us to make a photograph, and then translate that inspiration into making images that express what we truly see and feel.

Architectural Photography
with Nick Merrick
July 5 - 11

Designed for photographers with experience in architectural photography, we cover technical issues of lighting with strobes and hot lights, color balance, contrast, and their relationship to the aesthetic issues of image design. We devote each day on location to one of the five building types architectural photographers most frequently encounter: historical, institutional, commercial, hospitality, and residential. The distinctive architecture of Santa Fe provides ample and diverse subject matter for daily assignments that put into practice information acquired during classroom lectures and demonstrations.

Photographing People
with Cathy Maier Callanan
July 12 - 18

The workshop is for intermediate-level photographers who want to make stronger, more meaningful portraits, and who are hesitant about approaching people. Through daily assignments, we develop the awareness and sensitivity necessary to move beyond literal renderings to more intimate portraits. We learn effective methods for approaching strangers and putting friends and family at ease. Composition, lighting techniques, and forming a personal style are topics for discussion, investigation, and assignments.

Portraits Wrapped in Silver
with Renie Haiduk
July 19 - 25

If you long for the creative ambience of classic black-and-white film and the traditional darkroom, this workshop is an opportunity to liberate your photographs from what Richard Avedon called “the tyranny of technology.” Through the hands-on magic of the darkroom, we transform our images into the unmistakably sensuous format of silver-gelatin prints.
To register for any of the above workshops, please call (505) 983-1400, ext. 11.
