"The virtue of the camera is not the power it has to transform the photographer into an artist, but the impulse it gives him to keep on looking."

Workshops in Mexico

the Heartland of Mexico, 2007 |
The Santa Fe Workshops will return to San Miguel de Allende,
Mexico in the fall of 2008 for its eighth season of photography
workshops. Popular instructors Frank Ockenfels 3, Ralph
Lee Hopkins, Julia Dean, Patrick Donehue, Platon, and Jock Sturges
are among those leading workshops for us in San Miguel.
NEW THIS YEAR: All participants
registering before July 1 will receive an "early sign-up" discount
of $100 off each workshop.
San Miguel is one of Mexico’s most charming colonial towns,
with narrow, serpentine, cobblestone streets that wind through
sixteenth- and seventeenth-century stone buildings. Rich in culture,
heritage, holidays, and fiestas, San Miguel is a National Historic
Landmark, and as such, no new buildings can be constructed in
the downtown area. It has long been a center for the arts and
home to an international community of artists, writers, and sculptors.
San Miguel has the feel of a small European city. Its people
are friendly and warm, and it is a safe town where strolling
its beautiful streets at night is a local tradition.
Consider joining us south of the border this fall! Click HERE to

instructor biographies, and the general information. Call The
Workshops for more information or to register (505) 983-1400,

Workshop: Ireland

Western
Ireland: A Photographic and Cultural
Workshop in County Mayo & the Donegal Peninsula
May 26-June 5, 2008
A new tour led by professional photographer and tour leader Frank Lavelle
This special itinerary in 2008 includes three evenings on the Donegal Peninsula,
an exciting addition to our workshop. The peninsula presents quaint fishing villages,
and harbors. Western Ireland is a land of remarkable light, rugged natural beauty,
and warm people eager to share their rich heritage of music, folklore, literature,
and history. The journey itself will display huge panoramas that will look different
from every segment of the road we travel.
Days are spent photographing in one or two spots - uniquely special places you
could never find on your own, tiny villages, spectacular panoramas, hidden beaches,
and ancient abbeys. Our Irish host is Olcan Masterson, an authority on the history
of western Ireland, an accomplished traditional musician, and a living embodiment
of Irish charm and hospitality. He shows us the spirit and soul of Ireland as
few visitors ever experience it. We attend gatherings in village pubs, where
Olcan performs with local musicians. A neighbor may invite us to a party, or
a potter may show us around her studio. We discover a land and culture through
living it, not just visiting it. Join Frank for a very personal experience of
this land and its culture.
Only four spaces still available! Group size is limited to 10. For complete information,
please contact Strabo International Tour Company at 607-756-8676. Please mention
that you learned about this opportunity through the Santa Fe Workshops. |

The Digital Landscape
with
Stephen Johnson
April 21-25, 2008
Spend a week with digital photography pioneer Stephen Johnson exploring the
landscape of New Mexico with the extraordinary tools of the digital age. Blending
traditional aesthetics with innovative techniques and deep digital experience,
this workshop emphasizes our newfound freedom to capture what we see, rather
than adjusting a photograph after the fact.
Our week of information and inspiration includes fieldwork in digital image
capture, exposure, and composition; critiques; and lab sessions on Raw conversion,
image processing, color management, printing, and presentation. The primary
focus is on empowering participants to overcome technological hurdles and pursue
their vision. We spend about one-third of class time in the field, two-thirds
in the digital lab.

more about this opportunity on our Web site. Call
the Workshops to register (505) 983-1400, ext. 11.
