with Linde Waidhofer and Lito Tejada-Flores
October 29-November 1, 2006
Whether vivid or subtle, color is the heart and soul of a color photograph. Linde believes that color is personal and passionate, an aesthetic and emotional language that can be learned, mastered, and above all, shared. Our week in San Miguel promises to be particularly colorful, with the entire city adorned with flowers, colored paper, and folk art for the ongoing Day of the Dead festivities. This is “Cultural Color” with a capital C. This is an all digital capture workshop—geared to amateur and professionals who want to develop a greater facility for working in color. Zen and the Art of Photography
with Doug Beasley
November 5-11, 2006
Revitalize your photography while exploring the spirit of the people and land of San Miguel de Allende and it’s surrounding villages. Doug helps participants deepen their visual awareness while simplifying and clarifying their approach through daily field trips and visual exercises concerned with both internal and external exploration. This workshop provides a rare opportunity to rethink our expectations of what it means to “see.” We also increase our awareness of available and natural light and it’s most effective use. C-41 black-and-white film is processed overnight with 4x6 proof prints for feedback, reflection, and critique. Digital work is edited and critiqued by projection in the classroom. View the full course description, instructor biography, and package price.
Other instructors leading workshops in San Miguel del Allende this October and November are Nevada Wier, Mona Kuhn, Eddie Soloway, Paul Elledge & Leasha Overturf, Tony O'Brien, Ralph Lee Hopkins, Arthur Meyerson, and John Weiss.

with Eliot Cohen
September 25-29, 2006
This digital lab workshop focuses on methods for making the conversion from color to grayscale and on crafting images using digital darkroom procedures designed for grayscale work. Although the workshop has a strong technical focus, expression and representation are equally valued, and we direct attention to the aesthetic ideas behind each image. Eliot Cohen has been teaching and working in black and white for more than 30 years. For the past ten years he has created all his black-and-white images from color files, either scanned or captured digitally. His Web site address is www.eliotcohen.com.

THE NEW CURATOR
An SFCP "Creative Edge" seminar held in conjunction with Photo NY
Sunday, October 8, 2006
9am to 1pm
123 West 18th Street
New York City
This enlightening seminar explores the role of the curator as an arbiter of quality and a creator of context, revealing what's behind the choices curators make.
Presenters will address the traditional and changing responsibilities of the curator, and the relationship between curators and artists, curators and audiences, curators and the marketplace, and, finally, curators and the history and meaning of photography itself. Venues for the work of curators will be examined from the gallery to the Internet, from the printed page to the lectern, from the vault to the artist’s studio. Each presenter will offer an overview of her own priorities and process, and then evaluate the influence and future of the curatorial contribution.
Moderated by Trudy Wilner Stack, independent curator, writer and editor.
Charlotte Cotton, Head of Cultural Programmes at Art + Commerce in New York.
Christiane Paul, Adjunct Curator of New Media Arts at the Whitney Museum of American Art.
Brian Wallis, Director of Exhibitions and Chief Curator at the International Center of Photography.
Deborah Willis, Chair of Photography and Imaging, Tisch School of the Arts at New York University.
For tickets or additional information call 505-984-8353 or visit www.sfcp.org.
