with Jay Maisel October 15-21, 2006 The goal of this challenging workshop is to help participants become more keenly aware of seeing—specifically, of seeing precisely what is there in our own images. Light, gesture, and color are the major themes for the week. Jay informs and challenges participants with an active schedule of assignments, reviews, and lectures illustrated with examples of his work. Daily critiques and assignments hone photographic skills, build intuitive self-trust, and strengthen the ability to think in terms of pure color. | Recently, the participants in Alan Thornton's
"Lighting Portraits on Location" workshop spent a
day making portraits that most will not forget for long while.
The Heart Gallery project contacted Santa Fe Workshops Director
Reid Callanan, asking him to incorporate a portrait session
into one of the workshops this summer. Participants in the
workshop were assigned to make portraits of children available
for adoption from New Mexico's foster-care system. These portraits,
along with others done outside the workshop, will be featured
in a Heart Gallery show opening in Albuquerque on Saturday. To read the full story and view photos taken during the photo assignment, visit http://www.freenewmexican.com/news/47200.html. with Eliot Cohen September 25-29, 2006 This digital lab workshop focuses on methods for making the conversion from color to grayscale and on crafting images using digital darkroom procedures designed for grayscale work. For the past ten years he has created all his black-and-white images from color files, either scanned or captured digitally. His Web site address is www.eliotcohen.com.
