»ANIMALS Contest: The Winners!
It is estimated that 8.7 million species inhabit our planet. Our ANIMALS contest was an opportunity for 717 photographers—from 18 countries including Brazil, Iceland, India, South Africa, and Turkey—to submit 2,850 images. Interpretations and encounters ranged from wild to domesticated, cuddly to fearsome; jurors Crista Dix, Elizabeth Cheng Krist, Ian Shive, and Reid Callanan reviewed this diverse population of photographs and chose 50 award-winning images.
The Grand Prize goes to Paula Ruckett of Boca Raton, Florida for Two Pelicans; Second Prize is awarded to Douglas Frierott of Portland, Oregon for Polar Bear Play; the Third Prize winner is Donna Rosser of Fayetteville, Georgia for Serendipity. And the esteemed Director’s Award belongs to Elliott McDowell of Santa Fe, New Mexico, for Storm Eye.
In addition to these top prize winners, 46 photographers were awarded an Honorable Mention. All 50 winning images can be viewed in the online gallery on The Workshops web site. The four winning images will be printed on the Epson printers in our state-of-the art digital lab and displayed in our on-campus Epson Gallery.
We congratulate all the winners, we thank one and all for sharing their images of our animal planet, and send a special thanks to the jurors and sponsors of ANIMALS.
