Juror: Julie Blackmon
About seven years ago, Julie Blackmon decided she needed some better photographs of her kids to hang on the walls . . . and decided to do them herself. So she got an old darkroom in the basement of their house up and running, and started photographing every evening. Julie wasn't too far into it before she realized she was interested in moving beyond her goal of just trying to get good portraits of her kids.
In 2005, she entered her work in the Santa Fe Center for Photography's Project Competition and took first place in the competition. Since then, Julie has been named one of PDN's 30 Under 30, one of American Photo's Emerging Photographers, and has had her work appear in The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, TIME, Vanity Fair, GEO, and others. Radius Books published her first monograph, Domestic Vacations, in 2008. Her work is represented by galleries across the country, including Robert Mann Gallery in New York City, photo-eye Gallery in Santa Fe, and Fahey Klein Gallery in Los Angeles.
