It is estimated that 8.7 million species inhabit our planet. From wild to domesticated, cuddly to fearsome, they fascinate us and address our faith, doubt, passion and dread. We express our interactions with them, and interpretations of them, in color and in black-and-white, using tools that range from digital and film cameras to alternative processes, to iPhones.

Our contest is an opportunity to pause and review your photography, then join our international community of photographers and share your images with our distinguished judges. The prizes are great, the 50 winning images are featured in The Workshops online gallery, and the four winning images will be printed on the Epson printers in our state-of-the art digital lab and displayed in our on-campus Epson Gallery.

PHOTO CONTEST: RULES, TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Santa Fe Photographic Workshops invites anyone passionate about photography to enter the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops Photography Contest (Contest). You must read the following rules, terms, and conditions before submitting any photos!

WHO MAY ENTER
All photographers of any level who are at least 18 years of age as of the date of image submission are eligible.

Individuals affiliated with Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, including current employees, board members, and their immediate families (children, siblings and spouses) are not eligible to enter.

THIS CONTEST IS NOT AVAILABLE IN COUNTRIES, STATES, OR PROVINCES WHERE RULES TRANSLATION, REGISTRATION, OR BONDING ARE REQUIRED, AND IS VOID WHERE PROHIBITED.

WHAT TO ENTER
Open to all photographic imagery that can be defined as depicting "an animal or animals," as interpreted by the entrant.

Entries may originate in any format including, but not limited to digital files, digital prints, color transparencies, color prints, or black and white prints -- so long as they are submitted electronically.

Previously published material for which non-exclusive rights were granted may be entered as long as you still maintain the right to grant Santa Fe Photographic Workshops a license (see "Your Rights").

For a photo in which a person is recognizable, you must secure a model release from the subject or, in the case of a minor, the subject's parent or guardian and provide it to Santa Fe Photographic Workshops upon request. You do not need to submit it at time of entry.

Each submitted photograph, in its entirety, must be a single work of original material taken by the Contest entrant. By entering the Contest, entrant acknowledges that the submitted photograph(s) is an original work created solely by the entrant, that the photograph does not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, moral rights, rights of privacy/publicity or intellectual property rights of any person or entity, and that no other party has any right, title, claim or interest in the photograph. Photos that violate or infringe upon another person's copyright are not eligible.

There are no restrictions on eligibility regarding when the work was produced, meaning the photographs entered do not need to have been produced in 2013.

The photographs entered must not, in the sole discretion of Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, contain obscene, defamatory, or otherwise objectionable content. Entries deemed inappropriate will be disqualified.

HOW TO ENTER
Each photo must be submitted electronically through our web site at www.santafeworkshops.com/contest. No mail-in entries will be accepted.

Each entry consists of an entry form, an entry fee, and up to three images. Additional images may be submitted for additional fees. There is no limit to the number of submissions per entrant.

Registration
Each entrant sets up an account on the contest registration site and registers for the show "Santa Fe Photographic Workshops Contest: ANIMALS." An email confirmation will be sent to the email address affiliated with your account.

Follow the online instructions to upload and submit images.

To submit more than three images, an additional entry form is NOT required. Simply log into your account on the registration site and select "Buy Additional Images."

Image Format

• 72 ppi resolution
• 1,280 pixels on the longest side
• sRGB or RGB color space (standard) with layers flattened
• 8 bit mode
• JPG format with compression at level 7 (at minimum)
• less than 2MB total size

Grand Prize, Second Prize, Third Prize, and Workshops Director's Award winners will be asked to submit a high-resolution file of at least 300dpi at 11x17 inches.

Filenaming
To avoid image upload errors, you can ONLY use alphanumeric characters with a period preceding the filename.

Please INCLUDE YOUR NAME in the file name. Example: Jake Snider_My Parents.jpg.

ENTRY DEADLINES AND FEES
The Contest begins 9:00am Mountain Standard Time (MST) on on February 15, 2013 and ends 11:59pm MST on May 7, 2013.

All entries must be received by 11:59pm MST on May 7, 2013 to be eligible.

A discounted fee of $30 applies to entries of up to three photos completed by 11:59pm MST on March 19, 2013.

A standard fee of $40 applies to entries of up to three photos beginning 12:01am MST on on March 20 through 11:59pm MST on May 7, 2013.

The entry fee for each additional image over three is $10.

JUDGING
All entries will be anonymously reviewed throughout the Contest. Images will be judged on originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact and artistic merit.

Winners will be selected on or about June 10, 2013 and notified by email or regular mail on or about June 15, 2013.

YOUR RIGHTS
You will retain all rights to any photograph you submit, including ownership if applicable. If your image is selected as a winner in the competition, you grant Santa Fe Photographic Workshops a nonexclusive right, in perpetuity, to:

• Use, in connection with the current and any future Photo Contest, your name, city, state and country of residence in Santa Fe Photographic Workshops promotions and publications.
• Use, in connection with the current and any future Photo Contest, your image on partner and third party promotions and publications.
• Keep the files provided, and to archive the images in electronic forms, so that your photos can be used in connection with the current and any future Photo Contest.

As conditions of this permission, Santa Fe Photographic Workshops shall credit all photographs with the caption "© Person's Name."

YOUR PRIVACY
We respect your privacy. Santa Fe Photographic Workshops will not sell, rent or exchange your e-mail address.

LEGAL CONDITIONS
This Contest is subject to federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Certain restrictions may apply. Entries void if Santa Fe Photographic Workshops determines the entry to not be an original, or if the entries are illegible, incomplete, damaged, irregular, altered, counterfeit, produced in error or obtained through fraud or theft.

Participants also agree (a) to be bound by these Official Rules; (b) that the decisions of the Judges are final on all matters relating to the Contest; and (c) if he/she wins that Santa Fe Photographic Workshops may use each winner's name, city, state, and photograph in any publicity or advertising relating to current or future Contests. All federal, state, and local taxes on prizes are the sole responsibility of the prize winners.

Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, in its sole discretion, reserves the right not to award all prizes in the event an insufficient number of eligible entries meeting the minimum judging criteria are received, and in this case will return the entry fees.

In the event that the selected winner(s) of any prize are/is ineligible or refuses the prize, the prize will be forfeited and Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, in its sole discretion, may choose whether to award the prize to another entrant.

Santa Fe Photographic Workshops reserves the right to adjust any deadline(s) as the result of causes beyond its immediate control.

THIRD PARTY RELEASES/LICENSES
Upon Santa Fe Photographic Workshops’s request, each entrant must be prepared to provide a signed written personal release from all persons who appear in the photograph submitted, authorizing us to reproduce, distribute, display and create derivative works of the photograph entry in connection with and promotion of Photo Contest, in any media now or hereafter.

In addition, upon Santa Fe Photographic Workshops’s request, each entrant must be prepared to provide a signed written license from the copyright owner of any sculpture, artwork or other copyrighted material that appears in the photograph entry, authorizing us to reproduce, distribute, display and create derivative works of the photograph in connection with and promotions of Photo Contest. Failure to provide such releases upon request may result in disqualification and selection of an alternate winner.

LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
By participating, entrants agree to release, discharge and hold harmless Santa Fe Photographic Workshops and each of its partners, affiliates, agents and its employees, directors, and representatives from any claims, losses, and damages arising out of their participation in this Contest or any Contest-related activities and the acceptance and use, misuse, or possession of any prize awarded hereunder.

Santa Fe Photographic Workshops assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, or delay in operation or transmission; communications line failure; theft or destruction of or unauthorized access to Contest entries or entry forms; or alteration of entries or entry forms. Santa Fe Photographic Workshops is not responsible for any problems with or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any e-mail entry to be received on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any web site, human errors of any kind, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to entrants' or any other persons' computers related to or resulting from participation, uploading or downloading of any materials related to this Contest.

RIGHT TO CANCEL OR SUSPEND CONTEST
If for any reason the Contest is not capable of running as planned, due to infection by computer virus, bugs, worms, trojan horses, denial of service attacks, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of Santa Fe Photographic Workshops that corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of this Contest, Santa Fe Photographic Workshops reserve the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual(s) who tamper with the entry process, and/or to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the Contest. If Santa Fe Photographic Workshops elects to cancel or terminate the Contest, Santa Fe Photographic Workshops will not retain any rights in the submitted photographs and will return the entry fees.

NOTICE TO INDIVIDUALS: REMOVAL FROM MAILING LIST: Any individual may elect to unsubscribe from email lists. To elect to have an individual's name excluded from such communications, select “unsubscribe” from the link in the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops email.
